The Pencil Grip, Inc. Magic Stix Marker Review and Giveaway

If you've been reading my blog for the past few years, you've probably come across my reviews (And giveaways ☺) for Kwik Stix Tempera Paint sticks, Thin Stix Tempera Paint Sticks, and the Thin Stix Creativity Pack from  The Pencil Grip, Inc.  Now I'm happy to review a new product, the Magic Stix Washable Markers.

We were sent a set of 24 markers to use and review, and we happily did so.
I didn't test out the "won't dry out for 7 days" claim, but do be sure to check out posts from other Homeschool Review Crew members, as I'm sure that some folks took that as a challenge. ☺

My youngest discovered that there were a few things that he had to adjust when he was using them~

  • I assume because of the "won't dry out for 7 days" feature, the ink takes a little longer to dry when applied to paper (90 seconds...). This means that the colors may "blend" which can be great if you want them to, and a little harder to work with if you don't. If you do want them to blend, I suggest using the lighter color first, so that your tips don't end up being "muddied" with another color. If you don't want any blending to occur at all, then I suggest working on areas that don't touch, to give the ink time to dry. Really not a difficult thing to adjust, and could be considered a pro or a con, depending on your perspective.

A finished project ~ with some interesting spots. ;)
  • He also wasn't quite used to the boldness of the colors, so was surprised when the deep colors totally covered over the black lines of the page he was coloring in. Again, something to adjust when using a new tool.

The boldness of the colors gave me the idea to try an effect I enjoy using~ water spattering. It worked VERY well with these markers!

Regarding the claims on the label~
  • No Odor~ Hallelujah! It's true! I really don't enjoy using stinky, smelly markers, so I'm happy to say that my sensitive nose didn't notice anything amiss when these markers were being tested out.
  • Bright Bold Colors~ Absolutely! VERY Bold colors, which is sure to be gratifying to the youngest artist, who might have difficulty getting their colors bright enough when using a variety of art supplies. Not a worry here. :)
Perfect to add some color to a Valentine's graphic
  • I will mention that while my kids are all on the older side, and we didn't actually have any need to test out the "washable" aspect of the markers, I did do a very small "test" on my hand. While the majority of the marker washes off, there was a faint line left over after scrubbing with water, but it was even fainter after washing with soap. As with any colorful art supply, use discretion, and understand that "washable" seldom means entirely removable. ☺
  • And, I didn't test out the "won't dry out for 7 days" claim, but do be sure to check out posts from other Homeschool Review Crew members, as I'm sure that some folks took that as a challenge. ☺
I will also mention that I greatly appreciate the sturdy plastic case that keeps these markers contained and/or ready to travel. Much better than a cardboard box that inevitably falls apart, and makes it difficult to keep track of everything.

The good folks at The Pencil Grip, Inc. have offered to let me give away a completely new set of 24 Magic Stix Washable Markers here on my blog (for US entries only).
