Five Minute Friday ~ "Catch"

On Fridays around these parts we stop, drop, and write.
We write bold and beautiful and free. Unscripted and unedited. We just write without worrying if it’s just right or not.
Won’t you join us?
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.

"Catch me..............if you can
"Hey Mom, it's your turn! Catch!"
"Want to play catch with me?"
"You're gonna' catch it!"
"Great catch!"
<3

With the exception of one of those phrases, they mostly make me think of fun, baseball, kids, tossing things around, playfulness. What goes up must go down~ gravity at work ~

When it's good clean fun, we play with gravity~
When we try to run away (from work, responsibility, etc..), fly away, the gravity pulls us back to to the ground. Hopefully "You're gonna' catch it" is a phrase that reminds us of gravity~ of a return to the place where we belong~ where things are on a firm foundation... of right and wrong.

A place where we can delight in the joy of catching and falling~ the giggles of the little one, when you announce "I'm going to catch you", and they run away, laughing with relish~

Welcome~ Attitudes or Amenities?

Want to take five minutes with me and just write without worrying if it’s just right or not. Here’s how we do it:
1. Write for 5 minutes flat with no editing, tweaking or self critiquing.
2. Link back to Five Minute Friday @ thegypsymama and invite others to join in
3. Go and tell the person who linked up before you what their words meant to you. Every writer longs to feel heard.
It’s a great way to exhale at the end of a beautiful week.
And for added fun gypsymama always throws into the pot something special from DaySpring.   How sweet!

So, this week's topic~ WELCOME ~  Go!

Everyone longs to feel welcome~ whether in someone's home, church, school, or any gathering of friends. Question: Am I doing my part?

I know that I always try to give a welcoming smile to someone new, because I know how I feel when I'm on the receiving end of a welcoming smile. It doesn't take much effort to make someone feel welcome in social situations, really. (And it's a health bonus~ Smiling is GOOD for you! :D )

I could wish that my home were more welcoming~ we really don't have much "Furniture" to seat people, so that's a problem. Having large family gatherings INSIDE just can't really happen here because it wouldn't be comfortable or welcoming from a physical standpoint.  (I usually can be found on the floor when we have company...), and then there is the "Clutter" issue (working on that....).

So what makes you feel welcome? Physical amenities,  or a welcoming attitude? I'm better with one than the other, but attitude usually wins out. :)

Five Minute Friday~ Every Day.....

I'm in again for 5 Minute Friday! (Making it at least once a month, hey?)

100_1098
  • Every Day~ I wake up (Sometimes cheerily, others head-achy, others somewhere in-between). A multitude of opportunities to make it a GOOD day are just waiting to be acted upon.
  • Every Day~ I choose to make the most of those opportunities.... or not.... I fear that often I choose to be static rather than dynamic....
  • Every Day~ Every day I have the opportunity to take joy~ my children make me smile and laugh
  • Every Day~ I receive the opportunity to work on my patience, thanks to those same children
  • Every Day~ I try to feed my family "made-from-scratch" nutritious food
  • Every Day~ Words are read, prayers are said, and songs are sung
  • Every Day~ I choose to give thanks to the Lord of Heaven and Earth~ for salvation, family, shelter, food, and the beauty of His creation
Every Day....you???
(Visit the Five Minutes Friday, and add yours~ :) )

Five Minutes Friday~ Distance

Joining in on a "new to me" Meme~  5 minute Friday~ That's all.... just write for 5 minutes on a given theme (Gotta love "journal prompts" ;) ) (Disclaimer~ I spent about 10 minutes on my first "5 minutes Friday... oh well) :)
The theme this week is "On Distance", so here goes! :)

Distance~ I could go in so many directions on this~ Elementary things like "How far is it to the Moon from the Earth?" and more esoteric options like how far IS the East from the West? (Psalm 103:12)

East
West
However, today I think I will talk about "distance" as it pertains to my family. I am the youngest of 6 children~ we are 5th generation Montanans. However, at this point, no one but our parents live in Montana. We are separated by physical distance (from Hawaii to the East Coast, and points in-between), and sometimes, by virtue of that distance, possibly by emotional and/or spiritual distance as well.

I don't have "Daily contact" with anyone in my family beyond those that live with me. I think our "Small World" is too large in many ways. When we are physically distant from one another it is hard to take part in the day-to-day of life. This means that I often don't know when a family member is sick or feeling down.

HOWEVER, thanks to technology, that distance can be closed.

I am able to keep up with those in my family that use facebook on a daily or at least somewhat regular basis. That way I might have an idea if a niece or nephew is ill, or someone is struggling with something~ This gives me an opportunity to pray on their behalf.

Skype is very cool! We were able to have a REAL "Virtual" 80th birthday "party" for my father last weekend~ not everyone was able to make it, but we had enough to make it a special part of my dad's day, even if we weren't physically THERE.

In today's world~ "Distance" is something of a conondrum~ it is what you make it. You can be physically close and emotionally distant, or emotionally close and physically distant (Or any other of a myriad of combinations in-between)
I hope to be be "Distant" to the things that are not lovely and good and pure, and strive to be closer to those that matter~ God, family, and friends, no matter where they are found.

Blessings~
